Money Talks…
🌸🌸🌸3 reasons why a start-up needs a financial adviser
One of the biggest things I'm learning as a business owner is to employ people to do the things you can't. Which is why I’ve been working with financial adviser Gem Ibrahim DipPFS from Pinnacle Wealth Management. When it comes to finances, I know there are lots of ways your money can be made to work harder for the business – but that’s definitely Gem’s area of expertise, not mine. Through my experience of setting up Bloom Project Management, I’d advise any business – particularly a start-up – to bring in a financial adviser. These are the three most important things I’ve learned from Gem.
🌸1. You need to protect your business
As the owner and sole member of Bloom, if I can’t work then the business won’t survive. That’s why ensuring I had insurance and income protection was the first and most vital lesson. It’s very easy in the whirlwind of setting up your own company to overlook this – I certainly did – but it’s not something you can afford to ignore.
🌸2. Make informed decisions
Not only did Gem take away a lot of the admin of setting up pensions and liability insurance, but he helped by analysing risk policies and breaking down what I needed to know, so I could make informed decisions. There are multiple options out there when it comes to finance, many of which can be tailored to suit what you need. But if you’re not financially minded it can be hard to know which one to go for. Finding a financial adviser who helps you to feel comfortable making those decisions is key.
🌸3. Find a balance between present and future needs
Investing for the future is a hard thing to do, because that money could probably be very helpful for something the business needs right now – particularly in a relatively young company. Getting the balance right means you are making sensible financial decisions for both the present and the future of your business. A financial adviser can definitely help with the foundations of that.
